Multisport:
The passion Within multisport, my discipline of focus is duathlon, which has three legs in a run-bike-run format. I also enjoy competing in running races of all types, from track to road to trails. I began my career in high school, running cross country. After senior year, I shipped off to D-III Kenyon College in Ohio, where I ran varsity cross country for two years. Running injuries during my sophomore season caused me to pick up cycling as my primary sport. I transferred to the University of Michigan in 2002 and joined the Cycling Club. By the end of 2003, I had started running again, and I decided to race triathlons in 2004. In early 2005, I discovered duathlons and decided to specialize in run-bike-run racing. The 2006 racing season was very successful - I placed sixth overall at Short Course Duathlon Nationals and on the podium in most of my other races. A fairly solid but sometimes frustrating 2008 season has been put behind me, and I'm training to race hard once again in 2009. I will have a slightly lighter schedule, hoping to keep my legs a little fresher for the races that matter. Another key to success will be limiting injury down-time, something that has been troublesome in the middle winter months so far. Other activities:Keeping busy I am a physical education teacher in Potomac, Maryland, and I live in nearby Gaithersburg (which is great for commuting by bicycle). I will be coaching at school all year: varsity cross country, middle school basketball and middle school track and field. When I'm not training or racing, I enjoy photography, web design, music and reading. |
